OT+ Research: The effects of crafts-based interventions on mental health and well-being

'Therapists have used crafts for years to treat mental illnesses. However, there is no strong proof these treatments are effective for clients, or worth the cost.' This literature review explored the modality, via 19 studies. All reported short-term improvements in the outcomes measured. OT+ Members can read this 2025 study within the Mental Health / Wellbeing research theme.

The European Stroke Organization has issued its first recommendations on management of visual and visual perceptual disorders after stroke. It calls for systematic early screening, wider implementation of evidence-based strategies and coordinated care in rehab, including from OTs. This should "help expand use of recovery methods, such as visual scanning training and prism adaptation, making them more accessible and beneficial." Upgraded to OT+? Free The Burn In Model: A Brand New Model of Occupational Therapy

A new, nature-based occupational therapy model, that uses the metaphor of a flame to help people understand alignment, misalignment and sustainable well-being. At its heart, it asks a simple question: Is your inner flame burning bright, or starting to fade? The Burn In Model was co-created by OTs drawing on lived experience. It was shaped in community, through research, conversations and collective reflection - and refined through feedback from practitioners around the world.
