Request for Research Volunteers - Exploring the Transition from Occupational Therapy Student to Practicing Therapist

Attn: Occupational therapists (OTR) who have been practicing for less than 3 years.

Exploring the Transition from Occupational Therapy Student to Practicing Therapist.

Hello! My name is Lauren Picard, and I am an OTD student at Texas Woman's University. As part of my capstone project, I am conducting a study to learn more about the lived experience of the transition from occupational therapy student to practicing occupational therapist.

The purpose of this study is to:

  • Identify barriers and facilitators in the transition process from occupational therapy students to a professional role.

  • Gain better understanding of the transitional experience in newly graduated occupational therapists from academic settings to professional practice.

'6 Ways to Increase Neuroplasticity'

'6 Ways to Increase Neuroplasticity' (signposted in OT Circles, on The Occupational Therapy Hub)

"You can’t teach an old dog new tricks" might be the most damaging myth we tell ourselves about aging.

Hello fellow neuro-enthusiasts! I recently came across an article on one of my favourite topics - neuroplasticity - by neuroscientist Dr Dominic Ng. It's very accessibly written and is applicable to us all, so I thought it was worth signposting to you!

Dr. Ng outlines six 'evidence-based ways to keep your brain young, adaptable and primed for growth'. You can read all about them via the link above; I've picked my highlights from each below:

  1. Stay Connected 'A 2023 Nature Aging study found that older adults with regular weekly social contact had 30-50% lower dementia risk compared to isolated peers.'

Introduction and questions

Hi all I am a wheelchair therapist in Devon and I wondered what specialist seating other services are using and what the outcomes are. We are beginning to look at our whole specialist seating process shortly. Again I wondered what your specialist seating process is, so for example how long is it taking etc etc.

Thank you Jaime

Hi Jaime,

I'm based on the Isle of Man so things probably work slightly different here. We currently have a contract with Careflex and get the vast majority of our seating from them. It generally takes 4-6 weeks from the order of a chair to it arriving. Some of that time may be in our own internal processes and shipping through a 3rd party (weather can often play a big part in anything getting here as we are reliant on boats being able to sail!).

Participants needed for research study!

Hello everyone,

I am looking for occupational therapists to take part in a 60 minute informal interview over Microsoft teams for my MSc Occupational Therapy research study. I would love to hear your perspectives on screentime to gain a better understanding of its form, function and meaning in childhood occupational participation.

More details can be found on the poster! If you would like to discuss this further, please email: l.fitzgerald4@uni.Brighton.ac.uk

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Application Management Services: An Informational Overview

Application Management Services (AMS) refer to a set of practices and processes focused on maintaining, supporting, and improving software applications throughout their lifecycle. These services are typically used by organizations to ensure that business-critical applications operate reliably, remain secure, and evolve in line with changing business and technology requirements. Rather than focusing on building new applications, AMS is primarily concerned with the ongoing management of existing systems, whether they are on-premises, cloud-based, or part of a hybrid environment.

At its core, Application Management Services include activities such as application monitoring, incident management, bug fixing, performance optimization, and routine maintenance. When issues arise—such as system slowdowns, errors, or outages—AMS teams analyze root causes and restore normal operations as quickly as possible. In addition, they handle version updates, patches, and minor enhancements to ensure applications stay compatible with operating systems, databases, and third-party tools. This continuous…
