Hi
I work in the acute setting, as part of the medical team. Until recently we used the MoCA to assess cognition, but are no longer able to use this due to now needing to be accredited.
Has anyone else had this problem, and what are you using now that is appropriate in this area.
Thanks
Hi, late to the party here! ace iii is great and we use it in memory clinic regularly, but if you’re working acute and dealing with delirium it’s not always the right tool. From an ADL and cognitive perspective have you considered the LACLS or functional living scale? I used them when I covered a frailty unit. It really depends like anything why you’re assessing and what you’re doing with the result you get.
Thanks for the replies, unfortunately we can't get funding for the MoCa at the moment, but we will definitely look at the ACE-III.
Passing on a comment from Cindy - one of our followers who responded on Facebook: "I would encourage you to do the certification. I did it and learned so much. It breaks down all the sub tests and what part of the brain correlates with the skills in that sub test and basically then how to approach a deficit in that skill during intervention. Well worth the price of certification."
Hi jane, not sure if you are on twitter but i replied on there. I love the addenbrookes cognitive examination ACE III. Used to use in memory assessment service. Its good to support diagnostic purposes, It has on line training which is very thorough.
Great question @Jane! We'll bring this to fellow Members' attention across social media, to offer you advice here.
