Hello,
I am in the process of creating a new OT outpatient clinic which will aim to focus on patients with brain injuries and executive functioning cognitive issues (particularly after mild TBI). I've come across the CO-OP Approach which seems to have good evidence of effectiveness with this patient group. Can anyone who has used the CO-OP approach tell me if it would be appropriate to be used in an outpatient setting please?
CO-OP is a client-centred, performance-based, problem-solving approach that has seven key features, including client-chosen goals, dynamic performance analysis, use of cognitive strategies, and guided discovery. I have used some of these combination of techniques incorporated in the form of functional activities both in long term care as well as during the patient's intensive rehabilitation phase where they have just moved to 3 hrs a day therapy when I worked in the Stroke ward. At outpatient level, these patients are quite stable and hence we can incorporate more options in their care plan.
