Finger tracing is a great strategy for early writers, for teaching pre-writing lines and shapes in preschool and toddler years, and for encouraging carryover of diagonal lines, jumping lines, and curves needed for form letters. Try a few of these finger tracing techniques to incorporate the tactile system into letter formation
1:Tracerace letters in a sensory bin using dry rice, sand, or shaving cream
2:Finger trace letters on sandpaper
3:Finger trace letters using a sensory bag (details to make this tool below) 3:Start with air writing letters
4:Draw a letter on the palm of the child’s hand. The student then needs to finger draw the same letter on the palm of their hand. 5:Finger trace letters on one another’s back 6:Draw letters with glue on paper. Students can finger trace the dry glue letters.
