Hello!
I am an occupational therapist with a special interest in sleep health.
Based in South Africa, our lockdown is still quite strict so at the moment I am focusing on spreading awareness about sleep health and the effects of sleep deprivation on function. Otherwise I provide intervention virtually.
I would love to start a conversation with OT's who are interested in sleep and to share knowledge, experience and problems we each have so as to grow this very important field in the OT scope.
I have many resources such as articles, assessments and interventions and hope to share them here to foster any interest into sleep health that others have.
I am also available via email if anyone would also like to connect there tanya@sleep-ot.com and my website is growing and would love some visitors too www.sleep-ot.com.
Sleep. Perform. Repeat.
😀
Interested to know about sleep and OT.

Otherwise email me and I will put you on the list to hear about other upcoming webinars. Hope to see you there! :) Please share with colleagues you think may be interested.
Wow Rachael, that is a great opportunity. Unfortunately in South Africa we are quite behind in terms of such initiatives and rather segregated in some health practitioner communities.
That sounds like a really interesting job, Rachael!
Hello , I am an OT working in NZ as a health improvement practitioner . This is a new initiative. To assist with the primary health care . I sit in g.P clinic and assist people with stress ]or life style issues . Additional to this I have my own private practise off behavioural sleep medicine . I belong to the Australians sleep association and really recommend it for resources but also peer support ( I haven’t come across any OT smy peer support networks.) so check it out !
Thanks Tanya- I tried replying a few times before this but it hasn't gone through.
I look forward to hearing more about your upcoming workshop.
Agree, that case studies are a great way of learning from each other.
Cheers, Yas
Hi Yasmin,
This is fantastic news! I am always so excited when I connect with another OT already offering Sleep-focused services. It really is a great starting point for any kind of rehabilitation - both physical and psychological. I work with a colleague who has a special interest and training in persistent pain management and she deals a lot with CF management and sleep management. We will be presenting a workshop for OT's in South Africa in October this year. I am hoping we can make it accessible online and therefore globally.
I think we should begin sharing resources - articles, assessments or just processes you find helpful. Case studies are also a great way to learn from one another.
Hi Tanya- thanks for your post. I am an OT in Brisbane, Australia. I am a novice in the area. I work with outpatients with persistent pain and have been assisting patients with prioritising and optimally managing their sleep to aid with their pain management (and other benefits of improved sleep quality and quantity). I have also provided inservices to my multi-disciplinary team and OT colleagues about sleep health. I am keen to participate and contribute where I can :-D
Hi @Tanya Muir. Thanks for reaching out to the community here (and for transitioning from OT Circles). We will bring this forum to the attention of Members via our social networks, to get people talking faster!
