Hi Helen, Here are a few more comments gathered, in response to your question:
Kim: "Yes! We need to heal all our bodies. Physical, emotional, spiritual and mental! I’ve just finished certifications in energy healing and meditation teacher also since these things also helped me with my grief after the loss of my son. And the trauma I didn’t even realize I was holding on to which started causing physical ailments. I want to get OT and holistic healing back into the mental health hospitals and in healthcare in general! It is overdue!"Jessica: "Indeed! Integrating evidence based practices of meditation and yoga has been wonderful for my holistic work as an OT in the mental health and neurodiversity space."
Nikki: "Yes I have been working with integration of Mind Body Spirit for some time now. Separation is not the answer; our health care systems need to integrate."
Margret: "Ayurveda is traditional medicine from India, not an alternative therapy. Alternative to what? To biomedical Western medicine? Define what you understand as standard, please."
Ismira: "Only yoga and meditation are backed up by science/peer review. Of course there is placebo too. Let’s not mix myth with science."Helen: "Hello yes we do at Rise and Rewild."
A further comment to pass on Helen...Becky: "I’m currently training as an OT and also have a BSc Herbal medicine. Have taught yoga for 10 years and work with groups giving sound baths. I am fully insured as a herbalist/yoga teacher and ideally I would like to integrate this holistic model alongside OT if I can so I would be really interested to hear from OTs doing this. I absolutely cannot seperate my 15 years working as a herbalist from how I approach individuals, so as Suzy commented above, it will always form part of my approach."(Occupational Therapy Community Facebook group)
Hi Helen,Thought I'd share a few comments across the Hub's social networks, in response to your question...
Rachel: "I integrate meditation, breath work, and reiki into my sessions, either at the beginning or end pending the person & their needs ◡̈"
Smridhi: "Yes!! Yoga positions can be well integrated for postural control in children & adults."
Tasneem: "I work closely with other professions such as breath work practitioners, body talk and access bars practioners and I am currently upskilling myself in emotional freedom technique (tapping) and Ho'oponopno."
Andrew: "I did a course with @special_yoga and delivered 1:1 and group sessions at the special school that I worked in. Outside of work, I did a reiki course and while I don’t offer it to my patients I find I use it to help me get through stressful situations in the hospital."(The Hub's Twitter page)
Suzy: "I am an OT and also a reiki practitioner. I integrate the reiki into my practice on a daily basis... Its not that I do a reiki session specifically, but I draw on my understanding of a person's energies and l consider that alongside my planned interventions. Any intervention used in my OT role has clear rationale with evidence base. I have a separate practice for direct reiki healing, with separate insurance for this. There is an American OT who is worth a Google called Rebecca Austill-Clausen too."(Occupational Therapy Community Facebook group)
