What do you like about your specialization / field and what are the biggest challenges?

Hi Everyone!

I am prospective student. I am gathering as much information as I can about occupationally therapy to help me with my university personal statement and prepare me for the program entry requirement interviews.

I am interested to learn about your personal experiences as OT's. What do you like most about your field / specialization? What are the challenges you face within your specialization / setting or working as an occupational therapist in general? And what skills / characteristics are most important for the specific specialization?

Looking forward to hearing from all of you!

Many thanks,

Cynthia

I'm a fresher. Adult neuro rehabilitation and Oncology What I like most about my field is that I love to challenge myself with clinical reasoning skills, and if I can find any new solutions for the difficulties the client face I feel very satisfied,Communicating with the client and their caretaker about their problems and the solutions we try to provide along with other professionals. So difficulties that I face is that I'm an occupational therapist in India. Here in our country there is low awareness about our role and profession. So getting referral for Oncology cases are very less. Generally speaking here in India there is an increased awareness about the Occupational therapy role in Autism but not in other fields A very good interpersonal communication skills, energetic, eagerness to learn new things and ability to cope up with work stress are very important skills in my point of view .
