Hi! I am a US OT working on a felony mental health docket - these are folks with SMI who have either been arrested for or convicted of a felony and whom their attorney believes is in the situation due to their mental ill-health. There's more to it than that, but those are the basics. Are any of you using VR for any aspect of intervention? I know there are many behavioral coping skills apps (meditation, breathing strategies, etc.) but I am more looking for interactive apps for the individual to practice interview skills, interpersonal communication/social skills, etc. Interested to know what you all are doing out there, and also any ideas in general if you are working with a similar population welcome!
Hi! I would love to connect with you. I work at a state psychiatric hospital for individuals that are 100% court involved. I am interested in learning more about your experience and collaborating!

Hello Everyone,
I am currently an OT student from the US, completing my capstone project in Curaรงao. My focus is on advocacy for OTs to address the mental health of patients in the physical disability setting. Due to the cross-cultural aspect of the project, I am interested in gaining more information about mental health practices in the OT scope across other countries. For those who have worked in mental health, what has been your experience? Also, has anyone experienced difficulty getting into mental health practice in their country due to scope of practice issues or other reasoning?
Thank you in advance for your help!
Emma B., OTS
Hi Emma,
In Australia , if you want to practice working with mental health clients, we usually start off in large community public mental health or acute mental health wards....that would be my recommendation due to all the risk issues and risk assessments yo need to master first before moving on your own in private practice....also clients with mental illness also may have many other underlying conditions usually cognitive impairment- those with severe mental illness that you would normally encounter in public services ... in private the diagnoses may be different....I am guessing your clients with physical disability would suffer more from depression and anxiety, grieving process and adjustment to their physical disability and illness. Mental health is everywhere and cannot be separated from other conditions... It is the way to practice holistically. All the best with your advocacy efforts to consider patient's mental health and well being in addition to physical.
Trust all are well,Recently concluded my Masters in Public Health and still practicing OT in a CAMHS/AMHS outpatient clinic in Dubai.
My Dissertation focused on Assessment of transitioning of young people/young adults from CAMHS to AMHS and interested in pursuing Transistional Care cordinator role in the near future.Looking for literature, contacts or institutions dealing with same.Any leads are appreciated.
Also @Elijah Okall - would you be open to sharing your dissertation here on the Hub? We're sure fellow OTs could benefit hugely from the transitioning perspectives you covered... If so, do drop us an email (hubteam@theOThub.com).
Hello everyone, how are you? I am looking for a Masterโs degree in Occupational Therapy due to the lack of a Masterโs degree in Occupational Therapy in any of the Arab countries. Where can I get a scholarship or at which university can I apply for a Masterโs degree in Occupational Therapy?
Health Sciences University in Bournemouth, Uk is small enough to be personal. Not sure about scholarships though. Youโd need to self fund as an international student.

Have you read?...
"If you feel that alcoholics should just stop drinking, agoraphobics should just go out more or anorexics should just have a McDonalds, this probably isnโt the article for you. Iโm going to try and explain how to make sense of why people do things that arenโt obviously in their best interests."
Just read it. I guess it would be useful to people new to the MH setting, but it seems a bit obvious to me. Surely as health practitioners, and particularly as OTs, who take a holistic view, it doesn't need saying that we should be non-judgemental, empathic and curious?
Or maybe I'm being a bit harsh?! ๐ค
