  • Moving and Handling: A Dignified Approach

A taste of moving and handling theory! This short course outlines the theoretical foundations that underpin effective moving and handling techniques, emphasising dignity and safety. It provides valuable insights into the principles that drive best practices. However, true mastery comes from hands-on experience; you don’t learn to swim by simply reading about it! This short course was authored by María N. Gómez Lacalle (Specialist Occupational Therapist). It was edited by Dr Madhuri Arora (General Physician) and Jamie Grant (Specialist Occupational Therapist). --- [PLEASE NOTE]: This course provides refresher training and an overview of moving and handling. Before supporting individuals via the methods discussed, clinicians and carers should undergo full, in-person training by a qualified practitioner. If you find this course engaging, we warmly invite you to complete Healthy & Independent's comprehensive online course (see 'References and Further Information' section for details). We also encourage you to attend one of their workshops, where you will engage in practical, hands-on training, essential for translating theory into practice.

  • Fundamentals of Posture, Pressure and Ergonomics

During daily occupations, the importance of good posture and body positioning stretches (pardon the pun) far beyond comfort and avoidance of joint pain. Optimal positioning benefits us all, from digestion to respiration and beyond. Take this short course to learn about these themes and explore their core principles. Questions will follow content, to help test your knowledge and provide evidence of learning.
