Career Development Framework: Guiding Principles for Occupational Therapy (RCOT)
The recently published career Development Framework: Guiding Principles for Occupational Therapy is an over-arching set of guiding principles for occupational therapy. It offers a structured process to guide careers, learning and development within our profession. It contains four interacting Pillars of Practice each with nine Career Levels:
· Professional Practice
· Facilitation of Learning
· Leadership
· Evidence, Research and Development
It can support you to identify the things you have already learnt and areas for continuing professional development. The framework can be used at different levels; on an individual level, you can map current level of experience and plan future learning and on a service level, you can identify strengths in the team and future needs when recruiting.

Helen Sanderson Associates (+ One-page profiles)
A one-page profile captures all the important information about a person on a single sheet of paper, under three simple headings: what people appreciate about me, what’s important to me and how best to support me. We believe that one-page profiles are the foundation of personalisation and can lead to positive change for people, whatever their age or circumstances. They provide us with an at-a-glance way of knowing what really matters to people, that can be taken with them as they move through services and come into contact with people. Getting started with one-page profiles (PDF) > One-page profiles: Getting them right (PDF) >
We support individuals, teams and organisations to put people - and what matters to them - at the heart of the work they do every day. We do this because we believe in a world where everyone is valued and appreciated as an individual - and we know we can make it happen, one step at a time.
We work with customers large and small, from lots of different backgrounds. These include charities and companies specialising in health and social care, education, and criminal justice. As a social enterprise, we invest our profits into person-centred charities, through our charitable arm, the HSA Foundation. Because of this, our customers aren’t just creating a more person-centred world themselves - they’re also supporting others to do the same.

TRAMm CPD
The TRAMm* (Tell, Record, Apply, Monitor and measure) Model and its tools the TRAMm Tracker and TRAMm Trail, collectively known as TRAMmCPD have been developed by Occupational Therapists to provide health and care professionals with a framework to meet the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Standards for Continuing Professional Development (CPD). CPD is a personal and subjective journey, as well as a professional responsibility and mandatory requirement. In order to be effective you need to Tell others, Record and Apply your learning, Monitor your progress and measure* the impact.
The TRAMm Model is a dynamic, interactive model which encourages your engagement in CPD (Hearle and Lawson 2019) whilst the TRAMm Tracker and TRAMm Trail have been designed as tools to enable you to record your CPD, keep track of your progress and measure the outcomes of your learning. We have received feedback from health and care professionals who have successfully submitted their CPD Profile for the HCPC Audit using TRAMmCPD as a structure.
The new, fully updated edition of our book A Strategic Guide to Continuing Professional Development for Health and Care Professionals: The TRAMm Model (2nd ed) is available to buy in paperback or ebook formats and is free to read for members of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) as an eBook (once logged in: Library Resources - eBooks - eBook Central - search for TRAMm Model).
Doctoral research is currently being undertaken to provide underpinning evidence for TRAMmCPD. Updates to the TRAMm Model is ongoing based on the results of our research, the latest TRAMmCPD information, resources and tools are free to download from our website.
[*Please note that the lower case ‘m’ is used to denote measure purely to differentiate it from Monitor. It has no significance in terms of importance].
