About
I started my professional career when I volunteered as a live-in volunteer in a community for adults with learning disabilities and autism. That experience shaped my life and lead to me choosing OT as my profession. I have worked as an OT for 30 years, mostly in a role as Community OT for adults with learning disabilities and autism.
In 2018 I left the NHS to work for Camphill Milton Keynes, a charity which provides supported living and day opportunities for adults with LD and autism.
After a period in management, I stepped into the role of a support worker.
I love working hands-on with our residents, as it allows me to observe, listen and analyse, and in the process find the best way of meeting their needs and improving their lives. I have learned that understanding needs and gaining trust is the building stone to all intervention.
I also love the commitment and passion of the team.
I may not work as an OT, but I certainly feel that I am providing occupational therapy every day!
