Hi everyone!
I have had some downtime during this time of COVID-19 to look into some ways of improving my practice and how things run on the ward I work on, which is an inpatient stroke rehabilitation unit in New Zealand. I came across the Catherine Bergego Scale which addresses the extent of unilateral neglect (or inattention) and it has helped me as a tool for some sort of outcome measure. I find that I'll just be telling my team that "Mr E. has improved, he has done this, this and this today!" otherwise, and I have found that this scale has let me have a bit of a record of how he has improved. I find this measure easy to use, and can be done with everyday functional tasks (ie. I don't need any other equipment other than what we already have as it's all standard, functional items).
Has anybody else used this before?
You can find some information on it here: https://www.sralab.org/rehabilitation-measures/catherine-bergego-scale-kessler-foundation-neglect-assessment-process
And the manual can be found in the downloads below.
I would be interested to hear about experiences with any other tools that are similar, and thoughts about them in different neuro-rehabilitation settings.
Hi @Yi-Lin , Thanks for bringing the CBS to my attention! I work in a brain injury rehab unit in the UK, have patients with forms of inattention/neglect and hadn't heard of this assessment. Glad to hear that no specific additional equipment is required... Have you had a look at the list of assessments I highlighted in my forum (Occupational Therapy + Brain Injury Rehabilitation)? A few deal with visual deficits... Might add CBS to this list! The Occupational Therapy Hub team will be sharing your post across its network this week, so hopefully we'll hear more of others' experiences soon. Jamie
Thanks very much for reaching out to fellow Members @Yi-Lin . Happy for us to share this forum across our social media network, to bring it to the community's attention?
