California OTA moving to England

Hey everyone. So I want to try working in England as a COTA and I am wondering if my license and NBCOT certification will carry over. If not, what is the process of being able to work as an OTA in England?

WIll highly appreciate the help and advice!

I'm not sure if a COTA is exactly the same as an occupational therapy assistant (OTA) in the UK. Essentially here, OTAs assist the OTs with carrying out their interventions, often being more 'hands-on' with patients/clients. They work in a variety of settings and specialisms. I/the Hub couldn't advise specifically on work visa applications. I would suggest you visit the UK government website for info on this: https://www.gov.uk/browse/visas-immigration/work-visas.

*Looking for OTs living or have lived in Southeast Asia*

Hello everyone!

My name is Husna and I am a registered OT living in New Zealand. I am intending to do my PhD that will be focused on the experiences of OTs from Western countries living in Southeast Asia. I'm open to OTs from a variety of settings including the community, hospitals, schools, clinics, universities and more!

At this stage, I'm just interested in hearing your experiences of being in Southeast Asia. In return, I'm really happy to share more information about New Zealand's healthcare system for those who might be interested in moving here.

You can contact me by responding to this post or through my email: h29maira@gmail.com

Thank you!

Hi! I worked in PHilippines for 9 years and moved in US after that . Iโ€™m actually really interested about OT in New Zealand :-)

UK trained OT moving to California

Hi everyone,

Are there any UK trained OTs who have ever gone through the OTED process to work in the States/ know of anyone who has completed this process? I am hoping to move there, however, looking at the education requirements (below) I am unclear as to whether my BSc (Hons) is enough to be accepted?:

"You need to have a minimum of an entry-level master's degree in occupational therapy, or a bachelor's degree in occupational therapy with a post-professional master's or doctoral degree in occupational therapy, or a bachelorโ€™s degree in occupational therapy with a masterโ€™s degree in a related field to apply for the Occupational Therapist Eligibility Determination (OTEDยฎ) process. Internationally educated therapists must go through the OTED process to obtain eligibility to take the NBCOT OTRยฎ Certification Examination."

Apologies for the long question but if anyone has gone through this process, I would be very keen toโ€ฆ

Hi Christine how has the process been for you?

OT moving to Quebec

Hi,

I am moving to Quebec and I am hoping to practice OT when I get there. I understand there are procedures to undertake and Iโ€™m getting started on this. I was wondering if anyone could give me the details of an OT that works in Quebec so I could ask them a few questions I have. If you would mind giving me their details via chat, that would be much appreciate.

Thank you!

Hi Isabel,

I am a 3rd year OT student in the UK and Iโ€™m aiming to go to Quebec and work there after my studies. Could you share whether your experience has been smooth or any tips for the paperwork process?

Thanks
